Daniel Hemric’s first Monster Energy NASCAR Cup season with Richard Childress Racing will also be his last as the team announced Tuesday.

Richard Childress Racing released a press release stating that the team has decided to exercise it’s option and will release Hemric at the end of the 2019 season. Hemric is a rookie in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series and made the move to the top level after back to back finishes in the final four in the NASCAR Xfinity Series points standings for RCR.

Hemric tweeted out Tuesday after the announcement, “Forever grateful to Richard and everyone [at Richard Childress Racing] for the opportunity. I’m disappointed it ended like this, but we’ve got nine more races together and some team goals that are still within reach. I’m going to do all I can to make sure we get those & finish the season strong.”

Since joining the top level of racing in 2019, Hemric has a best finish of fifth coming at Talladega Superspeedway in May. He has only posted the lone Top-5 and two Top-10’s this season while having led 15 laps and posting a 22.67 average finishing position.

Hemric jumped at the chance after Ryan Newman vacated the RCR seat at the end of 2018. The team announced a number change and brought Hemric in to the seat for the 2019 season. He will finish out the year in the number 8 Chevrolet.

RCR has not announced a replacement driver for the 2020 season but early speculation has it as defending Xfinity Series Champion and this past week’s Xfinity Series winner at Las Vegas, Tyler Reddick to fill the seat. Reddick currently drives for RCR in the Xfinity Series.

The NASCAR Xfinity and Cup series are both in action this weekend at Richmond for a pair of playoff races on Friday and Saturday. Both races will start at 7:30 p.m. ET and will be televised on NBCSN.
